I have fantastic news! Rijkswaterstaat has approached me to create mural paintings on four large concrete pillars at the A7 viaducts in Purmerend. Students from a nearby school, the blossoming Perelaar, were invited to share their ideas for the murals. Together, we selected the themes of a Blossom, a Butterfly, Lavender, and a Kingfisher, as well as the Spoonbill at the request of the municipality of Wormerland, which features the bird in their logo.
This exciting project showcases the joy that street art brings to the community, brightening the environment and enhancing the daily experience of those who pass by. The response has been overwhelmingly positive! I’ve received numerous questions, including: - Will the other pillars also be painted? This may happen in 2025. - Will the paintings have anti-graffiti protection? Yes, they are coated with a UV-protective anti-graffiti layer. - How long does it take to paint one pillar? It takes about three days to complete, excluding preparation.
Before starting the artwork, I ensured the pillars were professionally cleaned, treated for algae and moss, and prepped with a high-quality concrete primer. I then applied a base layer of concrete latex myself.
Thank you to Rijkswaterstaat and the city of Purmerend for trusting me with this significant project. Purmerend is set to become even more vibrant through the power of street art!
